Jerusalem is located in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea, in the central part of Israel, and appears on the map of Israel slightly east of Tel Aviv and west of the Jordan River. One of the world’s oldest cities, Jerusalem has a history dating back to at least the 4th millennium BCE, with continuous settlement for thousands of years. Today, the city has a population of over 950,000 residents, while the broader metropolitan area exceeds 1.3 million people.
