Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes and About Jalisco New Generation Cartel

Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as “El Mencho,” is a Mexican criminal figure alleged to be the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of the most powerful organized crime groups in Mexico. Emerging in the early 2010s, CJNG rapidly expanded its territorial influence and became a major player in international drug trafficking networks. Authorities in Mexico and the United States have accused the group of trafficking substances such as methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl, as well as engaging in other illicit activities including money laundering and weapons trafficking.

Under El Mencho’s alleged leadership, CJNG gained a reputation for its aggressive tactics and rapid territorial expansion, often clashing with rival groups and security forces. The cartel’s growth significantly altered Mexico’s organized crime landscape, challenging older criminal organizations and intensifying regional conflicts. As a result, El Mencho has become one of the most wanted individuals by both Mexican authorities and U.S. federal agencies. Despite multiple large-scale operations aimed at dismantling the organization, CJNG has remained influential in several regions. The case of El Mencho highlights broader issues surrounding organized crime in Mexico, including cross-border trafficking routes, institutional corruption, and the ongoing struggle of governments to curb cartel-related violence and illicit trade. Mexico’s most-wanted cartel boss and head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, has been killed alongside eight other cartel members in a Mexican military operation aided by US intelligence support. Twenty-five members of country’s National Guard died during attacks in the state of Jalisco.
